💡 Minimum Quantity Lubrication for Sawing

As well-know for people working in tube forming lines, there is a section dedicated to cutting, with specific tools called “saw blades”.

A frequent problem in this type of operations is the friction generated between the cutting tool and the material, with the consequent risk of heating and wear of the tool itself. To contrast these undesirable effects, many people opt for traditional flood cooling methods.

However, at the same time, these solutions presents also several unwanted disadvantages:

  • They are expensive
  • They create a messy and dirty working environment
  • They can be dangerous for the health and safety of the operators.

But let’s see more in detail.

Picture 1_What happens with traditional flood coolant methods

As a matter of fact, users of flood coolant should not only consider the coolant costs, but also the issues related to it and the extra equipment needed (i.e., for the mixing, recirculation of the product, treatment and disposal).

In addition, such fluid have a high impact on environmental contamination, as they create a dirty and messy working environment.

This leads to another crucial point: if we think of potential slippery floors and the coolant vapors that the operators working around the line inhale, it is quite clear that this might seriously affect their safety and health.

Picture 2_The benefits of Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL)

In this regard, DieTronic Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) technique is an efficient alternative to traditional flood coolant systems, which saves money, eliminates the environmental contamination, the need for disposal, and the negative aspects of using coolant.

The key of its success is that the saw blade is protected by applying a fine spray of lubricant (not of coolant) directed exactly when and where it is needed, with little or no excess fluid to clean up or dispose of. In this way, it is possible to strongly reduce the fluid consumption and to eliminate the water usage on the protected tube and in the working environment. This allows to minimize the material friction, extending the saw blades life and ensuring a better rust preventive fluid performance.

To reduce further the process costs and ensure at the same time the product protection against corrosion, DieTronic has developed a complete anticorrosion solution, that combines the use of the Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) technique on the saw blade with the Antirust Spray System.
